Kia's Spanking New 2018 Rio

Kia Stonic

Amongst the buzz of the plethora of new compact SUV releases set for 2017, you may have heard the name ‘Kia Stonic’ thrown around here and there. This concept is set to be released later this year, and yet Kia has managed to maintain a decent amount of mystery over whether any developments have or have not materialized past the initial concept. This is particularly intriguing, since the last peak of this concept remains very concept-y- with blatantly dramatic exterior styling and minimal insight into the inner mechanics. The Kia Stonic is teeing up to be a big surprise. With all of the manufacturers joining the petite SUV trend, we are intrigued to see how Kia’s Stonic distinguishes itself from the competition.

Even more mysterious than the enigmatic car itself, is the unique name bestowed upon it. ‘Stonic’ is a neat portmanteau that Nissan got from the first and last notes in the musical scale, as well as the word sonic. Stonic is keyed to suggest that the Stonic will be new, fresh and agile.

Kia says that the Stonic is set to be the “most customizable Kia ever”. We’re expecting a lot of personalization and more flexibility with desired features amongst trim levels and packages. This could potentially be a killer move by Kia, as most people have a very specific set of wants and needs and a hyper-customizable vehicle has yet to be introduced to the market.

Kia Recall

Kia has issued a vast recall and is making plans to inspect and possibly replace up to 1.3 million vehicles. Affected vehicles include the Optima, Sorento, and Sportage that are equipped with Hyundai's 2.0 and 2.4 L “Theta” four cylinder engines. The recall spans across Kia's that were built in Hyundai's plant in Montgomery, Alabama between 2011 and 2014.

Thus far, approximately 10 percent to 20 percent of said vehicles have reported engine stalls. The issue can contribute to a loud knocking noise in addition to a loss of power. If the check engine light or engine oil pressure lights illuminate unexpectedly, be particularly aware of any issues or noises coming from the engine, as it could be an indication of a faulty engine.

2017 Kia Sorento

The Kia Sorento was given a major redesign last year; hence we primarily see minor detail upgrades and subtle design enhancements throughout the body for 2017. The snubbiness of the front fascia (lessened a bit this year due to the slight body stretch) is nicely highlighted by Kia’s distinctive tiger nose. The lengthened body looks sleeker and more aerodynamic than last years rendition and offers more interior space.

Available Nappa leather and well cushioned 14-way adjustable seats offer a comfortable, classy environment. The 2017 Sorento can be had with seating for five or seven. Kia has a solid reputation for interiors that feel more luxurious than you'd think, and this SUV in particular greatly benefits from its modish dash and interior design. Now, the cargo space behind the third row may seem limited considering how much bigger the Sorento is; but the seats easily fold down and offer plenty of room for larger items, and the hidden rear subfloor further increases the spaciousness.

The 2017 Sorento is available in four main trims, plus derivatives. As one would expect, the base model is quite the value; equipped with keyless entry, cruise control, stain-resistant cloth upholstery and basic AM/FM/CD audio system with Bluetooth connectivity and a USB input. The LX model however offers the most bang for your buck, adding a rearview camera, sound-deadening windshield, touch-screen audio display, and the ability to add more amenities via packages and the option of all-wheel drive. The Sorento's standard safety features include airbags all around and a slew of traction and stability-control systems.

The 2017 Sorento offers an automatic transmission coupled with its standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. This pair produces 185 horsepower, and is capable of towing up to 2,000 pounds. Other available engines include a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 240 horsepower and the most potent of the available engines- a 3.3-liter V6 that puts out 290 horsepower.

The 2017 Kia Sorento starts with a MSRP just over $26,000, but the $27,599 LX model is worth the extra money thanks to additional features and available options, and that's still lower than many SUV competitors currently in the market. The 2017 Kia K900

Kias 2017 K900 bestows palpable luxury within its cavernous 5 passenger cabin; enriched with genuine high quality materials and plentiful amenities and technology features that supply a sumptuous cabin experience. 2017 Kia Forte

The 2017 Kia Forte sports a redesigned fascia with new adaptive xenon headlights and distinctive new styling. New Perimeter Approach Lighting and Door Handle Pocket Lights illuminate when you return to your vehicle for easy entering. The new Forte also offers more technology and active safety features on their standard models, enhancing the overall value of the entry level vehicle.

The sections of the dashboard and center console directly around the front seat have all been given a slight twist, as if to wholly encircle the driver with the controls. The controls are not only pointed directly at you, but the majority of the controls rest on the steering wheel, enabling quick selections that can be quickly memorized. The Fortes overall NHTSA score is now up to the highest level of 5 stars for the first time after a needed structural refit last year. The Forte now gets additional active safety features as well; such as forward-collision warnings, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitors, and rear-cross traffic alert. As well as the usual roster of airbags and stability systems, the Forte also now includes four-wheel disc brakes.

Compact cars don’t usually make their name by boasting paramount technology and features, but the new Kia Forte is paving its own path to victory this year. 2017 Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage is a notable SUV in the market known for its value and practicality. The recent release of the new Sportage retains the value that draws in its key demographic, whilst broadening its appeal by adding some more advanced technology and enhancing the standard equipment.

2017 Kia Optima Hybrid

                Since its inception, the modern hybrid has seen its share of ups and downs. As gas prices fluctuate, so do their popularity. When gas prices were high, early hybrid models were the stars of manufacturers’ lineups, then when gas prices dropped SUVs and Crossovers became popular. But now even with low gas prices, hybrids are starting to make a comeback.

                Now, years after the initial hybrid boom, manufacturers have had time to develop better technology and styling for their vehicles. Today’s generations of hybrids are more stylish and appealing to consumers, and the 2017 Kia Optima Hybrid is at the forefront of the pack. The 2017 Optima Hybrid has all the features as the non-hybrid Optima but get 42 MPG. The Optima Hybrid has a slightly more athletic and aerodynamic shell. The big exterior add-on is new active grille shutters and aerodynamic changes to the front and rear fenders.

                Under the Optima Hybrids hood is a 2.0-liter, naturally aspirated, four-cylinder gas engine paired 38-kilowatt electric motor and a 1.62-kilowatt-hour-battery pack. Kia added a torque converter with a clutch and electric motor to its six speed automatic transmission, this melds together different power sources into a zero-emissions system. The Optima Hybrid’s total system output is 192 horsepower with 271 pound-feet of torque, netting 39 mpg city and 46 mpg highway.

The Kia Stinger is on the Way!

This year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, it was one of the hometown brands that made a splash, it was import Kia. South Korean automaker Kia, stole the show when they unveiled their wild-looking high-performance sports sedan, aptly named the Stinger.

From the onset, it appears that this is just another concept vehicle for the auto show, but it is not, it is a real product. And consumers don’t have to wait very long for the Stinger to arrive on showroom floors. The Stinger will arrive before the end of 2017. The Stinger is a sports sedan with a “fastback” shape, that is inspired by Kia’s 2011 concept car the GT. The Stinger is built on a brand new rear-wheel-drive platform, a platform that it shares with its corporate cousin, Hyundai’s luxury brand the Genesis G70.  The new platform gives the Stinger a low-slung long-wheelbase look that is quite dynamitic, a look that resembles Audi’s A5 and A7 and the Porsche Panamera.

Kia is stepping their game up with the performance of the Stinger. Rear-wheel-drive is standard with the stinger, but for those wishing for a little extra they offer the option of all-wheel-drive. Kia is giving two options for the engine in the Stinger. Standard is the 255 horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder motor. The optional choice is the smoking hot 3.3-liter V6 turbo “Lambda” engine, cranking out a staggering 365 horsepower. The chassis is a brand new development for Kia, designed by former BMW designers, with high performance at the forefront.

The Stinger continues its high performance and luxury feel in the interior, with a laundry list of premium features. The long list of driver-assist features include pieces typically associated with luxury models, including the latest version of Kia’s adaptive cruise control system, heads-up display and touchscreen “infotainment “system.
